My friend and i started doing UW runs together to farm for ectos. He had just made his 55 monk that day and i had already had my ss necro. So we started out doing pretty well. in about 4 runs we managed 6 ectos. Then after those 4 runs we did about 5 more over the next couple of days and ZERO ectos. We are very puzzled by this, and not sure if we have been flagged as farmers or if it is a string of bad luck. I am just looking for any answers from anyone, or if this same thing has happened to you. TY!!

C'est la vie in the UW anymore. It has been nerfed a few times. All I can say is keep going. Sometimes I get 5-6 ecto a run, sometimes I get nothing over several runs. Persistence and patience man. Good luck to ya.

Yeah, UW was nerfed recently, Ectos don't drop anymore.

Dunno but while farming trolls I got hit the the helpful hint box that said overfarming lessen drops blah blah blah. Just might have been another bad day. O, and after receiving that helpful box, 2 black dyes dropped in 3 runs after it ocurred and many gold items.

Well I don't know about any recent farming nerfs to UW, but ever since the AoE nerf, it isn't really worth it to go there to simply farm. Since there are other places that yield greater amounts of money.

so your saying that the AoE nerf, affected the drops??

No, the AoE drastically increased the time it takes you to farm UW. Plus, now you have to duo it. Thus, at the slower pace and your drops being cut in half. It isn't the fastest way to farm anymore.

Don't get me wrong it's fun and all. But 6 ecto runs aren't all that common, and then take your profits minus one thousand gold, divided by two, plus factor in the time spent there.

I have **** luck in UW. I've gotten 3 ectos total, and ironically... two of them have been from my ranger, not my SS 2-man farmer. Once was on one of my very first runs with my buddy who sucked at UW (hadn't really gotten used to UW yet), but we had fun anyway. Then I got an ecto in tombs on my ranger, and again in UW running a barrage build for 3-man to help teach one of my friends how to SS/SV. Kinda ironic...

Not to flame or anything (man I hope I'm not flameing), but what OTHER places are you talking about?

SF has a poor drop rate. Tombs has a poor drop rate, not to mention the division of gold, items, ect. Solo Griffon farming/troll/hydra/ (anything else?) can be long, no good drops, and so on so forth. IDS and FoW runs can have about the same drop rate as UW... Also it's still basically LUCK with the chest runs anywhere you go... So sorry if this seems flameing twoards you or something... but with 6 drops of ecto and those are around 5k each still seems good to me even if you have a string of bad luck.

The most worthwile thing now is probably chest runs for a good gold drop to auction it off for the highest bidder... but then I might just keep that 100k+ item just beacuse I like the look of it...

I know you mean to add in the time it takes also to do the run(s) it still seems good to 2-man farm. But I sort of went to FoW anyway... I do UW with friends/guild mates. Find a good SS or if you are a good SS the UW runs can go fairly fast (faster than trying to solo it now a days anyway).

I am not impressed by UW, made over a dozen 3-man trapping runs, got 2
ectos, and opened around 20 chests and all junk.... I have had better luck out
of Shiverpeak chests more than any other chest.
Last night spent 2 hours there and made 2.2k, WOW!!!!!!!!
I could make that in 30 mins in the troll cave without even trying hard, I
think was late to the ecto party and everybody is farming the snot out this
area to get there FOW armor.....
Sux to get favor drop whatever you are doing, because we finally got freakin
favor, and get total junk.....

UW isn't nerfed at all..

I've been with a Mo/W 55 HP friend while I play the SS/SV Necro and we've got at least 1 ecto per run out of around 30 runs, but of course there is the odd 1 or 2 were we got none, but in some runs we got around 4 ectos total.

My necrotic partner and I shared 5 globs in one smite run a couple of nights ago. Then again, it doesn't compensate for the runs in which we've had none >_<

But i think that the drop rate has been 'adjusted' by the good people at Anet. Still, how does the price of ecto plummit when the drop rates are lowered.

It hasn't been adjusted. People always say it's been nerfed/buffed if they get a good/bad run.

Ecto's are are almost down to the price of a shard. I guarantee you will find more shards per run then ectos per run not to mention the obsidian chests which have a good potential to give up some nice goods and upgrades.

Or you guys can stay "old school" and run uw.

Not saying it is nerfed, just saying it totally bites compared to FoW spider
cave runs, and you can solo a spider run in an hour, I can do a spider run
sell all the drops and shards if you want, usually get over 10k if sell shards
and buy the stupid ectos. Doing that I could average 2 ectos per hour, that
is never gonna happen in UW for me, besides I don't FoW armor anyway now,
I saving for the next chapter and nervously waiting to see what materials
are gonna be needed...

I echo this sentiment.

If you're in it for profit, FoW solo spider farming is by far the most lucrative of any area in the game per time spent. The shard drop rate far exceeds that of ecto, and combined with the sheer volume of "stuff" that drops (legs, etc), plus the added crap-shoot that is chests, it can't be beat.

For getting xp fast, UW is still tops. But it's not nearly as profitable.

Anyway, people ALWAYS say UW has been Nerfed as soon as they're unlucky. These threads pop up at least once a week... get over it, just keep grinding if you want the ecto. You get them or you don't, it really is all luck.
